Luckily, we also have a lot of fun in that amusement park. Under intense time pressure, the (preliminary) draft RES has been developed. Stakeholders have been involved as much as possible. Spatial design has been carried out as carefully as possible. Brainstorming sessions transformed into calculation and drawing sessions. Politics has been activated and is taking responsibility. It’s very exciting to see what the RES kick-off has produced over the past two years. We are proud that the first steps have now been taken.
From elite to broad society regarding the RES
Of course, there is pressure to meet the 2030 targets. Of course, permits need to be arranged quickly (already by 2025). Over Morgen is full of passion for speed and visible results. Still, we think it wise to take a moment to pause. To make the sustainability of the living environment, including the RES, successful, broadening participation to society is necessary. From offline walk-in meetings to online participation. A move toward decision-making on RES 1.0 by July 1, 2021, based on broad support. Should farmer Frans have a say in the RES? Absolutely. He must, after all, it’s his backyard or farmland. It is our shared planet.
Over Morgen and The Imagineers join forces for the Regional Energy Strategy (RES)
Giving as many people as possible the chance to share their opinions about the locations in the Netherlands where sustainable energy sources will be placed is important — but also complex. That’s why Over Morgen and The Imagineers have joined forces to give participation in RES 1.0 a boost. The Imagineers provides powerful online tools to make search areas and concepts visible and discussable at various levels of detail. This tool, the Stakeholder Engagement Platform (SEP), ensures that stakeholders receive enough information to form a well-founded opinion.
The belief is that the broader society will raise its voice when people feel invited and truly able to participate. This is achieved with appropriate visualizations and maps, which stakeholders can respond to and ask questions about. Over Morgen has extensive experience in spatial design, process approach, and participation within the RES. Through this collaboration, we offer a well-thought-out participation instrument aligned with the ongoing and upcoming RES process. With our enthusiasm, we are happy to engage in conversations with RES regions curious to hear what farmer Frans — and many others like him — have to contribute.
Quote Rijk van Voskuilen (Advisor Over Morgen)
Rijk van Voskuilen: “After the many spatial workshops, a new, accessible way of visualizations is needed in the RES. We are enthusiastic about the platform from The Imagineers.”
