De Suikerzijde is a new urban district in Groningen, located on the site of the former sugar factory. Spanning 185 hectares and planned to include 5,000 homes, this green and vibrant area blends bold architecture with inviting public spaces, just 2 kilometers from the city’s Grote Markt.
The Imagineers were commissioned by De Suikerzijde to visually bring their ambitious plans to life. Our role is to create realistic visualizations that not only showcase the new development but also capture the atmosphere of daily life in the neighborhood. We highlight the balance between robust urban development and livable, green spaces. With attention to details such as bike paths, parks, and community areas, we present De Suikerzijde as a lively and modern district.
To enhance engagement, we’ve also implemented our Area Participation Platform. Using Points of Interest, we highlight specific zones and features, while interactive map layers provide a clear and intuitive overview of the entire project. This allows residents and interested parties to explore both the plans and the future neighborhood in a transparent and accessible way.
A Stakeholder Engagement Platform provides
- A structured way of collaborating and communicating between all involved parties, which significantly increases the chances of a successful project.
- More transparency and trust among all parties, leading to better cooperation.
- The provision of a wealth of information that can be used to monitor the project's progress and make adjustments where necessary.

“De Suikerzijde will become an entirely new city district in a location that has always been somewhat hidden. The 3D environment created by The Imagineers helps interested residents and entrepreneurs gain a clear understanding of the future layout of De Suikerzijde — even from the comfort of their own home.
The Imagineers have particularly succeeded in working closely with our designers to shape the public space with great quality. It’s wonderful to see De Suikerzijde come to life in this way. At trade fairs and other events, the VR headset with the 3D environment has been a real crowd-pleaser.”
