Community Engagement for Dike Reinforcement in Beesel and Heel

With an Area Participation Platform, you create an interactive environment. This is extremely useful for all parties involved in an area development project. It enables project managers, municipalities, local residents, and other stakeholders to collaborate and monitor the progress of the project.

Commissioned by the Mourik Infra B.V. and FL B.V. consortium, The Imagineers were asked to develop a Stakeholder Engagement Platform for the dike reinforcement project in the Dutch municipalities of Beesel and Heel.

This dike reinforcement is a crucial project aimed at securing the safety of the surrounding area. The dikes in this region protect the hinterland from flooding, but due to the effects of climate change and rising water levels, they no longer met the required safety standards. The dikes have therefore been reinforced and elevated to meet future challenges.

Community participation played a central role in this project. It was essential that residents were involved in the planning process and could clearly understand the impact of the works on their surroundings. To support this, The Imagineers developed a Stakeholder Engagement Platform that allowed residents to explore the project area through realistic visualizations, both the current state and the projected situation after reinforcement. This helped the community get a clear and accurate picture of the changes ahead.

The design and execution of the reinforcement focused on preserving and enhancing the area's cultural-historical, recreational, and ecological values. Local landscape elements and native tree species were used to ensure the interventions blended seamlessly into the natural environment. In doing so, the project not only safeguarded the region but also enhanced its scenic beauty.

The visualization platform proved to be a powerful tool in engaging the local community. It enabled residents to explore plans, understand upcoming changes, and offer feedback or suggestions. This transparency and interaction contributed to a smoother and more broadly supported implementation.

At The Imagineers, we are proud to have contributed to this important initiative by making the invisible visible. We believe meaningful stakeholder participation is essential in the execution of large infrastructure projects. By involving residents early and thoroughly, their concerns and preferences can be acknowledged, improving outcomes for all.

A Stakeholder Engagement Platform provides

  • A structured way of collaborating and communicating between all involved parties, which significantly increases the chances of a successful project.
  • More transparency and trust among all parties, leading to better cooperation.
  • The provision of a wealth of information that can be used to monitor the project's progress and make adjustments where necessary.
