Here is what the Chamber of Commerce writes: "Windplanner: Innovative visualization makes energy projects visible and understandable." Clean energy is the future. Yet, a wind or solar park in your immediate surroundings is often hard to imagine. "Not in my backyard" is a common reaction. But is that really justified? With Windplanner, project developers can plan, visualize, and communicate the effects of a wind turbine project with the community at an early stage.
Windplanner is a web application that enables project developers to give stakeholders of a wind and solar project a realistic view. The tool is suitable for planning, simulation, visualization, and communication. It transforms sometimes abstract project drawings into a 3D visualization. On images, for example from Google Street View, you can draw in wind turbines and adjust their size, number, or type. The tool calculates the effects of wind direction, wind speed, and shadow on the turbines and their surroundings. Besides photo visualizations, the application can also use maps with geographic information to optimally plan a project and explain the plan to the community.
Windplanner includes all common models of wind turbines and solar panels in the software. Its applicability is therefore extensive. Strong partners, such as two regional development agencies, support this innovation. Windplanner already holds a significant market share in the Netherlands and is also gaining a foothold abroad with this ‘typically Dutch innovation.’ With better visualization, plans for clean energy projects become more understandable, and this tool can contribute to accelerating the upcoming energy transition.
