The realization of the connection between highways A8 and A9 is a complex process involving numerous stakeholders and sensitive regional considerations. One key aspect is the Stelling van Amsterdam (Defense Line of Amsterdam), a UNESCO World Heritage site of great historical significance. The landscape plan for this connection is therefore focused on minimizing any impact on this monumental defense system.
To ensure meaningful involvement of all stakeholders, the Province of North Holland initiated a public participation process. The goal: to inform stakeholders about the proposed plans and gather their input. Given the complexity of the landscape plan, it was essential to communicate the information in a clear and accessible way.
Implementation of the A8-A9 Connection
To support this, the Province of North Holland enlisted experts in participation and communication. Using a digital Stakeholder Engagement Platform, stakeholders could interact with the plans and engage in the process in an accessible, user-friendly environment. The platform made it possible to visualize design choices and proposed measures through realistic panoramic images and informative hotspots.
The digital platform was completed and launched in December 2021. Through this approach, the Province aimed to provide transparent communication and foster engagement with all parties involved. By making participation interactive and visually clear, the project took into account diverse interests and strengthened overall support for the A8-A9 connection.
