Windplanner visualizes the future of renewable energy with CesiumJS. On May 2, 2023, Cesium published an article about how we visualize the future of renewable energy at Windplanner. Below is a brief summary of the article:
International Recognition for the Windplanner Tool
The Windplanner tool has gained international recognition for offering both 2D and interactive 3D visualizations, incorporating buildings, terrain elevation, trees, and existing and proposed energy infrastructure. By presenting clear and realistic images of potential changes, Windplanner helps address concerns and build acceptance and support for local renewable energy projects.
To create accurate visualizations, Windplanner utilizes panoramic photos from various sources, including user libraries and providers such as Google Street View. These images are combined with Cesium World Terrain to deliver detailed and up-to-date representations of project areas. Users can select from predefined turbine models or customize their own, adjusting parameters such as hub height, rotor diameter, wind direction, and color. Additionally, they can set specific dates and times to evaluate shadow effects caused by turbines or solar panels.
Windplanner utilizes Cesium OSM Buildings and Bing Maps Aerial imagery to provide geospatial context. The tool enables collaboration between developers, residents, and decision-makers by allowing the sharing of interactive viewpoints. Users can present proposed layouts and locations and even experience projects in virtual reality for enhanced immersion. By leveraging Cesium’s capabilities, Windplanner enhances visualization and communication for energy projects worldwide, providing real-world data to support discussions and decision-making.
